New Economic Development Strategy

Town of Oakville Economic Development Strategy: 2019 - 2024

The Town of Oakville is undertaking research for a new five-year Economic Development strategy with the goal to further strengthen and diversify the local economy. As the current plan reaches completion, the department is in need of a new strategy to guide work plans and priorities for the next five years.

The town is working with McSweeney & Associates, a leading Canadian economic development consulting firm to create a strategy that includes extensive research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Research & Analysis

Community Engagement

The views and opinions of Oakville businesses, community partners, and residents are essential to creating a strategy that will ensure continued and sustainable economic growth in the community.

Qualitative research was undertaken throughout the fall to bring to light opportunities, challenges, and priorities to be addressed in the new strategy:

  • Interviews: 12 one-on-one interviews were conducted with major employers, developers, and community partners
  • Online survey: 99 survey responses were collected from residents and community stakeholders between Aug 22 and Oct 25
  • Focus groups: 30 participants attended focus group sessions with representation from local businesses, real estate, government partners, community organizations, and residents.
  • Public open house: the community was invited to meet with staff and project consultants at a public open house on Oct 25

Situational Analysis

A quantitative analysis of Oakville’s economic base was also conducted to create a situational analysis that includes an economic profile, and demographic, labour force, and competitive analyses.
