COVID-19 Business Survey

In April of 2020, the Economic Task Force produced an online survey for the local business community to share feedback and help inform priorities and initiatives in support of economic recovery in Oakville.

The survey was open from April 25 to May 18, 2020. Responses were received from over 20 business sectors, with more than 70 per cent from small businesses with 20 or less employees.

What we heard

Economic Action Plan

Reduce municipal and/or regional charges and utilities
  • Free parking in commercial areas; enforcement for safety and accessibility
  • Fees waived for patio and pop-up permits
  • Extension of business licenses that require renewal are extended during the COVID-19 crisis
  • No fees or permit required for additional A-frame signage on town boulevards in the commercial district
Additional property tax deferrals
  • Further expansion of the town’s property tax assistance
  • Deferral of 2020 property tax due dates to August and October
  • Penalty and interest waived until December 31, 2020
Promotion/marketing assistance (during and after COVID-19)
  • Launch of town-wide “Welcome Back Oakville” marketing campaign to promote the safe return to shopping, dining, and accessing services in Oakville
Information and leadership
  • Advocacy with all levels of government regarding COVID-19 programs for businesses
  • COVID-19 Business Resources section on Invest Oakville website
  • Regular e-newsletters to the business community highlighting major announcements and programs
  • Social media focus on communicating COVID-19 resources
Help getting my business online
  • Digital Main Street program provides a free resource to BIA members to build or enhance online presence
  • ShopHere program launch to help bring businesses online
